SSAFA has been supporting the Families and British Military Personnel that have given their Service to their Country since 1885.

The Charity was founded by Sir (Major) James Gildea to support the Families of their men folk fighting overseas and SSAFA have continued with unbroken loyal support ever since.

It is ironic that Sir James Gildea (then Major Gildea) started collecting money in 1880 to support the Families of British Soldiers and Sailors fighting in Afghanistan. Today we are still supporting the Families; ex service men and women and, our Serving men and women fighting in Afghanistan today.
